Painting on the new Finnair ATR livery at a glance
Magnetic MRO, a provider of total technical care for aircraft operators and lessors, and Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland, have signed a contract for complete paint work, full interior refurbishment and maintenance on all 12 of the airline’s ATR 72 fleet operated for Finnair by its partner company Norra. The first aircraft was delivered to the customer in May 2019 and the painting team has recently finished painting the third aircraft’s livery. The work scope for this project was to completely strip aircraft fuselage with chemicals, manually abrade wings and stabilizers, and paint it in the Finnair livery. According to Magnetic MRO’s Aircraft Paintshop Manager Rihards Priedkalns, the Finnair livery itself is fairly simple and sleek. “The complicity of this project was the fact that the team needed to remove all existing paints from composites and metal, which takes up a lot of additional time,” Priedkalns added. On average, the team has spent 10 days and 1700 man hours on the external paint work of a single aircraft.
